David Messing
David Garver Messing is a freelance travel and food writer living in Washington, DC. A native of Michigan, David moved to Washington during the fascinating final months of the Nixon administration after receiving a degree in history and economics from Michigan State University. He worked for several years as a legislative assistant to U.S. Representative James Howard of New Jersey, and later joined the staff of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management where he held several positions including director of its Congressional Liaison Office.
Throughout 2002 and early 2003, David wrote a weekly restaurant column for the Washington Blade and currently contributes restaurant reviews to publications including Metro Weekly magazine. An avid traveler, David has visited over 40 countries and combines his love of writing and travel to produce travel articles about both domestic and foreign destinations.
In his leisure time David enjoys hiking, bicycling, cooking, fine dining and wine, as well as urban architecture, among many other interests. An amateur genealogist, he has traced his ancestry back to the 16th Century in Germany and has become his family's historian of sorts. He serves on the Board of Directors of Whitman-Walker Clinic, the largest non-for-profit provider of medical services to persons with HIV/AIDS in the Washington area.
