FELICIA PERSAUD
A 29-year-old Guyanese-born journalist, Felicia Juanita Persaud, migrated to
New York City five-and-a-half years ago continuing her work with a primary emphasis
on the burgeoning immigrant and Caribbean American population in the U.S.
Persaud has served as managing editor and assistant editor at several local ethnic publications and at present, The New York Trend. Previously at the Caribbean American, The Queens Chronicle, The New York Voice and The Caribbean Times. In 2000, through the persuasion of media colleagues, Persaud formed Hard Beat Communications, Inc., a news service to these particular ethnic communities. In April 2002, she expanded Hard Beat into a full service public relations and special events firm in collaboration with partner Bill Farrington.
Her writings appear regularly in The Daily News, Caribbeat Magazine, Kip Business
Report, Black Elegance magazine, Caribbean Life, Caribbean Voice and the Caribbean-American
Business Journal. Her contributions can also be seen in InnerCityNews, The Jamaica
Gleaner, The African Sun Times, Cricket International, Sky Writings and NOU
magazine in the Caribbean region. Her column ‘Immigration Korner,’
in the African Times earned acclaim in African circles along with her investigative
pieces on the plights of various immigrants throughout the city. She’s
the winner of a New York Association of Black Journalists Award and an Independent
Press Association Award for excellence in writing.
