Relaxing Caribbean Lifestyle in St. Maarten

Map of St. Maarten showing Dutch and French sides
Hotel and Restaurant review with Deirdre  Frost   St. Maarten is a two for one special with its Dutch and French sides and for a carefree Caribbean experience, we look no further than the luxury, inclusive Sonesta Ocean Point Resort in St. Maarten.

What is so appealing at this luxury resort is the amazing views of Maho Bay.

As an adults inclusive-only resort, this hotel has it all — a spectacular location on  Maho Bay  personalized service and plenty of options for a lively, but relaxing experience on the island’s Dutch side.

The private pools and bay views are beautifully designed to reflect the relaxing surroundings.

For entertainment, the island’s active spot is Maho Beach where it’s possible to find action at the Casino Royale or experience the night life at different bars and restaurants. Apart from these exciting options, Sonesta Ocean Point offers a luxurious experience with beautifully landscape gardens of tropical plants and a zen garden with a fountain that seems soothing and in harmony with nature. Exploring the natural surroundings, we find the Edge Pool with its own private entry to the cliffside beach that offers extra seclusion.

Azul Restaurant is a great vantage point to observe the marine life while enjoying fine cuisine.

For intimate dining on-site, the signature Azul Restaurant is outstanding for both its location and its cuisine. Perched high on the cliff overlooking the bay, the restaurant has a spectacular setting as we dine on delicious seafood and celebrate our island visit with a glass of bubbly. From our vantage point, we can view the planes en route to the airport and also gaze at the luxury charter boats out at sea, which feels so enchanting at twilight.

Azul Restaurant offers exquisite cuisine in beautiful surroundings.

In early morning, we have a sumptuous breakfast at Azul again, while captivated by the marine life on the rocky coral cliffs just beneath the restaurant. We are drawn to this special place, even though there are four bars and three restaurants including Azul. The rooms and suites have a modern decor and stylish furnishings, which feel very private with balconies overlooking water views. Our junior suite is equipped with full amenities, including a stocked mini bar and special bottles of liquor. In maintaining high standards, the staff does everything possible to make our stay most pleasurable. Before leaving, we visit the Serenity Spa at the adjacent Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino & Spa and treat ourselves to a relaxing Island Coffee Scrub and a hydrating facial. While staying at Sonesta Ocean Point, we have access to all services and facilities that offer plenty of options to relax and experience the carefree island life. This makes our stay even more enjoyable with access to the best of both properties. sonesta.com; 1-800-SONESTA (766-3792), Serenity Spa (721) 546-6246.
