The Family Circle Tennis Championship in Charleston. 2015 Qualifiers and Kids Rule Opening Day

The 43rd Family Circle Tennis Tournament in Charleston South Carolina, the largest women only tennis tournament in the world, got under way today with a bevy of young players competing in the qualifying rounds to win a spot in the main draw play which starts Monday with Round One. It was also Family Day at the event and kids old and young had plenty to keep them busy, from tracking down their favorite players for autographs, to food, face painting, whirly gigs, wall climbing, tennis related activities  for kids,  and oh yes tennis too!

Who will win?

Taking a riff from David Bowie’s song “Young Americans”  Jesse Pegula and 15 year old Catherine (C.C.) Bellis  are just that- rising young American  tennis players – and although Pegula won and Bellis lost there is no mistaking the future of American tennis amongst the ladies looks very bright. Who will be the breakout story of this years play is yet to be seen. Play continues all this week with the championship match set for Sunday April 12. There is still time to purchase tickets, attend some of the matches and enjoy the overall fun experience that the tournament has to offer. So if you are in range of Charleston’s beautiful Daniel Island  come on out !
